Listen to at least the first 5 minutes of both of these YouTube videos (you can listen to more if you like). Listen carefully to the music. At the bottom of this page, leave a comment and tell me about two things that sound the same and two things that sound different. How are they different and why do you think that is?

DIFFERENCES-One had singing. one had improvisation
ReplyDeleteSAME-The both had eletric gitars. The both had back ground music.
They are different because 1 was a cometition
Same:
ReplyDeleteImprovisation because nearly all Bleues songs have it
Swinging beat for the same reason
Different:
They use different instruments
You can hear the base more in the second one
2 similarities are that they both use the air guitar and sound quite funky and old school. Another one is that both of them start slow and speed up gradually.
ReplyDelete2 differences are the more 1st one features more solo gutair playing. It also features less singing!
One of the similarities is that they use similar instruments, like the electric guitar and the drums.
ReplyDeleteAnother similarity is they both have singing somewhere I the performance
A difference is that the drum beat in video two goes much quicker than video one.
Also, there is less singing in video one, which is only at the beginning but is quite consistent in video two
I think they're quite different because video one was more recent, therefore the popular style of the blues might've been different than the popular style at the time video two was made.

Similarities:
ReplyDelete1) In both tracks the guitars are the lead/main instruments. Although you can hear other instruments, the guitar was the instrument that dominated sound-wise in both pieces.
2) The notes on the guitar sounded very smooth and slick, so they both used a slick amp setting as well as sliding their fingers down the fret board. Both methods give the sound that the tracks used.
Differences:
1) In the ‘BB King & John Mayer, "King Of Blues" (Completo)’ track, the sound was more relaxed. This was because the track was slow and steady. Because of the ocarina like instrument in the ‘Messin’ With The Blues’ track, the speed sped up to something more intense than the other track. I think they did that to portray a fast and intense rhythm for the songs.
2) The singing was more consistent in ‘Messin’ With The Blues’. This is because, in my opinion, the instruments portrayed more meaning in the other piece, so singing wasn’t as necessary as it was in ‘Messin’ With The Blues’, where singing gave more feeling and meaning than the instruments.
What sounds the same from the two videos is that they both use an air guitar but they don't go mad with it, it's just calm and jazzy nothing like rock.
ReplyDeleteWhat is different about them is that the second video sounds better because more sound and instruments are included to make the song even more better. But the first video just has two air guitars with is'nt that more exiting.

ReplyDeleteI think that one difference between the blues is the voice the 1st one has a higher pitch voice and the second has a deeper. The next thing in common is that they both play electric guatiars. Another difference is that the second ones is more jazz than the 1st one. They both have in common the enthusiastic about what they are doing. There's another difference because the 1st has 2 guatar players but the second has 1 .👍🎶
In these clips two things that sound the same are that they both repeated the same notes and rhythm throughout the song. also they both had moment of improvisation in it.
ReplyDeleteBut two things that sound different is the melody/timing of the music, and also the pitch. This is that the first one was slower and the pitch was lower, whereas the second one was faster and higher in pitch.
They are the same because none if the performances where solos and both had at least one guitar being played. They were different because in the first video they had a band of 2 and in the second video had a band if 4. Also there were drumbs in the second video unlike the first.
ReplyDeleteTwo things that sounded the same.
ReplyDeleteThere was similar layering because there were multiple guitars being played at once. I think that the tune of the songs were the same.
Two things that sounded different
The second clip was much faster and upbeat. There was also drum instead of just the electric guitars that was used in the first clip.
I think that the main difference with the two clips is that the people in the second clip sounded better because I think that the people were more professional, experienced and skilled and they work better as team.

1. Both the clips use the drums and the guitar a lot. Also the tone is similar and it is quite downbeat even when the music is fast.
ReplyDelete2. There was more singing in Messing With The Blues than in King of The Blues. More of the music seemed off the beat in Messing With The Blues than in King of The Blues, also the sound seems clearer in King of the Blues.
3. Messing With The Blues was from a festival in 1974 with lots of different artists playing their songs. King of The Blues seemed like a tribute concert by a new artist for a hero of his. John Meyer was playing along with BB King and it sounded more like improvising than songs. Also the sound quality was better as the recording was newer.
Two things that sound the same in these two videos is the style of instrument, both sounded quite jazzy and had a nice blue feel to it. Although different instruments were used it had the same rhythm. The voices sounded very similar in a way because neither went high or low it stayed within a short range and wasn't that powerful. Both of the videos had a simple drum beat baseline but occasionally had a bigger drum part but it mainly maintained a steady baseline throughout.
ReplyDeleteTwo things that sounded different was that one of them had an extra instrument (the harmonica) which added another level of pitch quite high sounding. Another thing was the electric guitar wasn't consistent in one of the videos therefore one of the videos sounded more relaxed and fluent with the beat and rhythm.
They are different because they are two different types of jazz blues and some have extra instruments which add to it and add another level of pitch and volume to make it sound different. One of them however does have a slightly more steady beat.
